Product Description
Eddy Mark IV - EP-6ULM (Made in USA)
The Eddy EP-6ULM (also referred to as EP-6UL-M) is a high-performance, industrial-grade variable temperature heat gun built for demanding professional and heavy-duty applications that demand reliable, high-heat output without compromising on control or portability. Manufactured in the USA by Eddy Products as part of their renowned Mark IV series—introduced over 50 years ago—this model sets the standard for ruggedness and longevity in flameless heating tools. Weighing a mere 2.75 lbs (including stand), it delivers powerful 650°F to 900°F heat at 27 CFM airflow, making it perfect for tasks requiring intense yet adjustable warmth, such as paint stripping or robust shrinking. UL-listed for safety, the EP-6ULM incorporates a break-resistant mica heating element with a suspended quick-change design for effortless maintenance, ensuring minimal downtime in workshops, construction sites, and manufacturing environments.
Key Features
- Durable Construction: Housing, handle, trigger guard, and integrated safety stand crafted from G.E. Lexan 940A Resin—a UL-approved, flame-retardant polycarbonate—for exceptional impact resistance, electrical insulation, corrosion protection, and a cool-to-the-touch exterior even during prolonged use.
- Break-Resistant Mica Heating Element: Suspended quick-change design (optimized for 120V models) allows tool-free replacement, promoting extended element life and easy servicing to keep operations running smoothly.
- Variable Temperature and Airflow Control: Adjustable air intake regulator enables precise settings from 650°F to 900°F, with variable airflow for customized heat intensity. A toggle switch provides hot/cold/off functionality for seamless transitions.
- Efficient Heat Delivery: Delivers consistent 27 CFM airflow through a double-jacketed nozzle and shield, which dissipates excess heat to maintain safe external temperatures while supporting focused or diffused application via the 1 3/16" opening.
- Maintenance and Longevity: User-replaceable carbon brushes and springs extend motor life, with full parts availability for cost-effective upkeep.
- Ergonomic Portability: Lightweight at 2.75 lbs with a built-in circular safety stand for stable, hands-free operation, ideal for both stationary bench work and mobile field tasks.
These features make the EP-6ULM a superior choice for high-heat industrial demands, blending power with user-friendly engineering.
Extended Warranty
Eddy Products stands behind the EP-5ULM with a 2-year parts and labor warranty (updated as of 12/1/2024), offering peace of mind and long-term reliability. The heat gun is designed for easy servicing, with all parts available for maintenance even after the warranty period, ensuring it remains a one-and-done investment for professionals.
Applications
Optimized for higher-temperature tasks involving shrinking, stripping, curing, and thawing, the EP-6ULM shines in environments where precision meets intensity across multiple sectors:
- Aircraft and Aerospace: Shrink heavy-duty heat-shrink tubing, form and bend reinforced plastics, rapid-cure high-strength epoxies, pre-heat metal components, and dry complex assemblies or composites.
- Automotive: Accelerate curing of body fillers, epoxies, and undercoatings; remove stubborn decals, paint, and adhesives; shrink upholstery fabrics and headliners; loosen seized rusted parts; thaw frozen fuel lines or locks; and dry paint booths or electrical components.
- Food Processing: Apply industrial shrink fittings and seals, bond heat-resistant plastics, dry large-scale equipment or conveyor parts, shrink protective films on bulk packaging, and maintain elevated temperatures for processing viscous materials.
- Electronics and General Industrial: Set high-temp thermoplastic adhesives, shrink heavy packaging or cable insulation, soften and remove tough laminates or tiles, thaw industrial pipes or valves, strip multiple layers of paint, melt heavy solder joints, and dry moisture in large motors or machinery.
- Graphic Arts and Printing: Dry thick inks, films, or overcoatings; reflow and smooth embossed surfaces; set industrial adhesives; shrink-fit durable Teflon or polymer sleeves on machinery rollers; and cure high-heat plastics or lacquers on prototypes.
- Home, Construction, and Metalworking: Strip multiple paint layers from surfaces, bend metal conduits or heavy laminates, remove caulking or adhesives from frameworks, dry expansive damp areas before finishing, thaw frozen plumbing or materials, cure construction adhesives, and speed up joint drying in drywall or masonry.
- Other Industries: Furniture manufacturing for upholstery shrinking and wood bending; metalworking for forging prep and rust removal; general fabrication for hot patching and material reforming.
Usage and Safety
- Operation: Adjust the air intake regulator to achieve the desired temperature within 650°F-900°F, and modulate airflow for intensity. Use the toggle switch for hot (heated output), cold (ambient air for cooling or dust removal), or off modes. The integrated stand enables secure, hands-free positioning for detailed or repetitive tasks—simply set it down and activate.
- Maintenance: Regularly inspect and replace the mica heating element or brushes using the quick-change system (parts kits available). Clean the nozzle periodically to sustain optimal airflow, and store in a dry environment after cooling on the "cold" setting.
- Safety Features:
- UL-listed for comprehensive electrical safety, meeting industrial standards.
- Double-jacketed nozzle and Lexan shield keep external surfaces cool, significantly reducing burn risks during extended sessions.
- Three-wire grounded cord with neoprene jacketing and strain relief guards against electrical faults and wear.
- Suspended element design and replaceable components minimize overheating or failure points for reliable, safe performance.
- Built-in stand prevents accidental tip-overs and promotes stable operation.
- Guidelines: Always use in well-ventilated areas to avoid fume buildup, wear appropriate PPE (heat-resistant gloves, safety goggles, and protective clothing), and maintain a safe distance from flammable materials or sensitive surfaces. Never leave unattended while powered on, and allow full cooldown before handling or storage.
Following these protocols ensures efficient, hazard-free operation in professional settings.
