Product Description
Eddy Mark IV Heat Gun Replacement Armature (Rotor):
Eddy Mark IV heat guns have a brushed style motor, consisting of a field assembly (stator) and an armature (rotor). Furthermore, the heat gun has two brush holders, two carbon brushes and two spings and caps that hold the carbon brushes in place. The carbon brushes make contact with the copper commutators on the armature, and when running properly, the heat gun motor will spin at 7,200 to 7,500 RPMs. Over time, the carbon brushes that make contact the the armature's commutators will wear away the soft copper on the commutators, causing the heat gun to make a goofy loud noise. This noise is due to just that, the armature commutators being so worn down that it needs to be replaced. This typically will not happen for several years, that is, if you use the heat gun every day for continouse use, 7 days a week. For intermittent usage, the armature will last many more years past that. Eddy Products would prefer to have you send in your heat gun for repairs, however there a many of you out there that are pretty handy, and would have no troubles replacing the old armature for a new one. 95% of the time you'll just have to replace the armature, as the motor field assembly (stator) does not get worn down.
