Product Description
Iroda S-51 is a 1 mm conical (fine-point) soldering tip designed for the Iroda/Pro-Iroda SolderPro 80 and SolderPro 90 (including 90K kit) series of cordless butane soldering irons.
Key Specifications
- Tip style: Conical / fine point
- Tip diameter: Ø 1 mm
- Overall length: Approximately 24.5 mm
- Base/bottom diameter: Ø 9.8 mm (threads into the iron’s tip housing via the standard locking nut)
- Operating temperature (on compatible irons): Approximately 752 °F (400 °C)
- Equivalent power range of the host tools: 25–80 W
It is the standard/included soldering tip in the SolderPro 90K kit (and also used on the SolderPro 80).
Design and Construction
The S-51 is a catalytic soldering tip typical of Iroda’s butane tools. It contains a delicate internal catalyst that converts the butane/air mixture into flameless heat at the tip. The tip body is generally copper-based with an iron plating (or similar high-conductivity, oxidation-resistant coating) for good thermal transfer and durability under repeated heating cycles.
Like other tips in the series, it uses a quick-change design: the entire tip assembly unscrews via a knurled nut. Always allow the tip to cool fully before changing it, and avoid overtightening or mechanical shock, as the internal catalyst is fragile.
Compatibility
Primarily for:
- Iroda SolderPro 90 / 90K
- Iroda SolderPro 80 / 80K
It is not the same as the S-01 (1 mm conical for the smaller Pro-50/Pro-70 series) or the PS-1 (1.6 mm conical for the larger Pro-100/110/120/150 series). The base diameter and overall form factor are specific to the 80/90 platform.
Typical Applications
The fine 1 mm conical point is optimized for precision work where heat must be concentrated and collateral heating minimized:
- Electronics and PCB soldering (through-hole components, fine wires, connectors)
- Small electrical repairs and wiring
- Jewelry and model-making
- Hobby electronics, RC models, audio systems, and similar detailed tasks
- General light-duty soldering where a pointed tip provides better access than a chisel
It is less ideal for large joints, heavy wire, or high thermal-mass work (for those, the companion S-52 2.4 mm chisel tip is preferred).
Performance Notes
On the SolderPro 90, the tip reaches working temperature in about 17 seconds. Heat output is adjustable via the iron’s gas control lever (mid-setting is typically recommended for soldering). Runtime of the iron itself is up to ~53 minutes per fill on mid setting, depending on gas quality and ambient conditions.
Proper care significantly extends tip life:
- Tin the tip regularly while hot.
- Clean with a damp sponge or brass wool (avoid aggressive abrasion).
- Do not run the tip dry for extended periods or subject it to mechanical impact.
- Use quality rosin-core solder.
Related Tips in the Same Series
The SolderPro 80/90 platform uses the S-5x family:
- S-51 — 1 mm conical (precision soldering)
- S-52 — 2.4 mm chisel
- S-53 — Hot-knife (45°)
- S-54 — Hot-air blower
These share the same Ø 9.8 mm base for quick interchangeability.
In short, the Iroda S-51 is a genuine OEM fine-point conical tip that delivers precise, controlled heat for detailed soldering tasks on the compact SolderPro 80 and 90 butane irons. It is a consumable part intended as a direct replacement or spare for the standard tip supplied with those tools.
